If you've attended one of my cooking classes at the Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park, Domo Arigato Gozaimasu! Here you'll find resources and recipes for those classes. If you haven't taken a class yet, what are you waiting for? We have classes for both kids and adults and we'll have some family classes as well. Check the calendar below for upcoming classes. Wa-shokuiku classes are special classes that benefit Table for Two, a 501c3 non-profit organization that strives to provide school lunches for children around the world. You'll find class descriptions further down the page along with a link to register. All classes are held at the beautiful Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park. |

Wa-Shokuiku Cooking Academy
Wa-Shokuiku has developed a seven part educational program that teaches kids all about Japanese food culture with an emphasis on nutrition, table etiquette, and food awareness. We'll be teaching this during July in two sessions. Space is limited to reserve space for your kids early.

Mommy & Me
Create some unique family cooking memories by registering for our Mommy & Me Classes. Each class will feature family friendly Japanese dishes that can be easily prepared by kids and parents alike. You'll create new memories learning and cooking together.
Soy Vay! Everything Soy from Edamame to Tofu
We will be learning about all things soy. From Soy Sauce to Tofu and everything in between. We'll make miso soup and we'll be making some surprising things with tofu.

Rolling, Rolling, Rolling-Family Sushi
Our family sushi class will introduce more family friendly sushi dishes that all family members can make and eat (not too much raw fish). We'll even make some dessert sushi! Everyone will learn to roll their own temaki (Hand Rolls) & TsuMaki (Cut Rolls) We'll also make chirashi and poke bowls and we'll even make Stitch's (Lelo & Stitch) favorite dish, Parents ask the kids to find out what Stitch eats.

Sushi@home-not via DoorDash or UberEats
You can be a sushi master at home and host your very own sushi party. We'll teach you all ninja skills you'll need make sushi for a crowd, whether it's your hungry family, your book club, bowling team or your American Ninja Warrior Team.
Time to Fire Up the Hibachi-Japanese Grilling
Summertime for most of us means firing up the Barbecue and cooking outdoors. Japanese summers are no different. We'll explore traditional Japanese grilled dishes like yakitori (grilled chicken), Yakiniku (grilled meat) & Yakisakana (grilled fish). We'll also be making an assortment of marinates and sauces and you'll be grilling your own over Japanese binchotan charcoal.

Family Bento Class
It's all about bento! Learn about the power of 5 to make a healthy and nutritionally balanced lunch for every member of the family. Kids and kids at heart will love making character bento lunches. We'll learn how to make rice and onigiri and we'll craft a seasonal, healthy lunch box with lots of colors, flavors and variety

Live Noods - All about Noodles
We'll be learning all about Japanese noodles. We'll learn about the history of Ramen in Japan (it wasn't always there). We'll make the popular flavors of Ramen, Soba, and Udon. We'll make Yakisoba and Yakiudon as well. We'll even make some surprise noodle dishes and we'll make both hot and cold noodle dishes.

Ok Ramen heads, we're going to show you that you can make ramen at home. We'll show you the ingredients and steps involved in making Tonkotsu Ramen broth (it takes minimum of 4 hours so we won't do it in its entirety) We'll make shio and shoyu ramen broths and we'll make tare & Mayu so you can customize your ramen. We'll also be making some dashi (Japanese Soup Stock), which is the foundational building block for many Japanese dishes. We will be making a traditional dashi as well as some very untraditional Dashi's.
